We start the year as we ended the previous one with a video tool. Sufli is an interesting extension for the Chrome browser that allows to translate the subtitles of movies and shows broadcast on Netflix.

Sufli starts from a good idea: using video and cinema to enrich his vocabulary in a foreign language. The Netflix video-on-demand platform has the advantage of offering the vast majority of its films with subtitles in many foreign languages. You will be spoilt for choice. (Like choosing a film by the way …)
Once Sufli is installed, in one click, on your browser Subtitles on Netflix will gain some additional features.
Start by choosing a movie and ask for the subtitles of the language you want to learn. When you click on one of the words, the translation of the word appears immediately. Practical for checking the meaning of a word in a sentence.
Sufli stops playing the movie while you let you read the translation. Better yet it displays the word in context by displaying previous subtitles just by hovering over a subtitle. You can even listen to them again by clicking on one of them. By the way, we can also work on the pronunciation. For this, you must have chosen, if you work in English for example, an English VO film with English … subtitles. In use it is very effective.

When you install this extension, you will see the word "SUFLI" and a configuration symbol just below the Netflix player. By clicking on the wheel you can change the type of translation, such as ‘From English to French’ if you are watching a film or series with English subtitles.
A smart little utility to use or/and advise your students to make Netflix something other than just an image tap.
Sufli is free and ad-free.
