I have just read ‘Les combats de l’école’, the latest issue of the ‘Way of seeing’ collection in the monthly ‘Le Monde diplomatique’. I advise you.
The Le Monde Diplomatique team has chosen to put the subject of school into perspective in a very rich issue that will be of interest to all those working or working in the education sector.
This issue of Way of seeing includes many articles from the archives of the Diplomatic World. All have been updated and put into context. The magazine also publishes several unpublished texts.
Whether or not one agrees with a particular article does not take anything seriously from the proposed texts, all of which make it possible to enrich the discussion. After a hard-hit lockdown by the school, which shed a sharp light on the problems of social inequality that affect a large part of young people, Hélène Richard, coordinator of this special issue, calls for a second breath.
Les combats de l’école offers a three-part number:
1 – ‘Success, yes, but for whom’ with a formidable text by Laurence De Cook which seriously scratches the action of the accusing government ‘to establish from kindergarten to faculty, a competitive system between students and between schools, to the detriment of the success of all’.
2 – ‘The other separatism’ back to the social segregation still at work under the varnish of the ‘single college’. Everything pits Henri IV’s high school students against the Seine-Saint-Denis bac pro. Sociological fatigue or school failure? asks Le Monde Diplomatique.
3 – ‘Front lines’ addresses the eternal confrontation between those who dream of an emancipatory school whose objective must be to raise the level of collective education and to arm critical minds and those who wish to tie the school to the labour market.

From tele-education to the explosion of inequalities and the rise of neuroscience, this latest delivery of Way of seeing proposes an X-ray while seeking to draw perspectives to democratise the school.
In passing, salute the beautiful graphic design and iconography of this issue of Manièr de Voir.
‘The school’s struggles’, the latest issue of Manière de Voir du Monde Diplomatique is on sale in all kiosks and on the Monde Diplo website.
