The morning mental calculation ritual, the raised slate, the same three students who respond quickly and the others who drop out. You vary the media, you project series of operations, but holding the attention of the whole class for ten minutes of calculation is often complicated. Especially when the levels are very heterogeneous. In short. There is an application that takes this problem by another side: motivation through play and collective emulation. It is called Calcul Mental Challenge, it is edited by Studiophel, and it has a rare argument: free of charge, without advertising, without compulsory registration, and covering the entire spectrum of CE1 in high school. I took a close look at that. class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nIt is a mental calculation application available on almost everything: Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iOS. Its ambition is in one sentence: <strong>make mental calculation less boring for students,<\/strong> without advertising or mandatory account. The result is surprisingly complete. There are a dozen game modes, several operations, a classroom mode for teachers, and even competitions between schools. What is striking first is the alignment with the programme. Each level follows the expectations of the Official Bulletin. In CE1 we work additions, subtractions posed and simple supplements. In CM2 the decimals and the order of magnitude are attacked. In college come fractions, relative and powers. The detailed progress on the site goes up to the second (real, algebraic calculation, powers), then switches to a category Competition oriented fast calculation, traps and strategies. The Battle of Classes pits two classes against each other, with each student seeing their contribution to the collective score. The War of the Schools broadened the principle between schools. The idea of a collective challenge is not new.
