class="ez-toc-section-end">

Matiko is an online exercise bank, sorted by class, by chapter and then by section. The student types their result directly, the site tells them if it is right, and then proposes a detailed step-by-step correction. Everything happens in the browser, on computer as well as on smartphone. The interface was first designed for the telephone.

Behind the site, there is no school editor. Its creator, engineer and independent project manager, explained to me that he started it after accompanying his two daughters, one in middle school, the other in high school, in their revisions, because he did not find training resources that suited him. He is not a teacher and he says it frankly.

In the landscape, Matiko is somewhere between the large corrected PDF banks and the solvers who spit out the answer as soon as the statement was photographed (I had reviewed several of them in this overview of tools to solve math problems). Here on Matiko, the student has to look for himself, and the site only intervenes if he gets stuck.

A corrected exercise step by step, with indices on demand

A course reminder before you start

Each section opens with an ‘Essential part of the course’ sheet: two or three concepts, each with a property, a method and an example. I opened the one on the addition and subtraction of relatives in fifth grade. It’s short, clean, and it’s enough to put the rule first before attacking.

Three levels of difficulty

Exercises are labelled Standard, Advanced or Challenge, with a filter to display only one level. In the same section, we move from a simple calculation of the sum to a submarine problem that chained four movements before returning to its station at -12.5 m (I did not know that we parked the submarines so close to the surface, but let’s pass). There are many contextualised statements, and this is rather good news.

A correction that shows the method

The student works on the draft, enters his answer and clicks on ‘Check’. If he blocks, he asks for a clue. The correction then details the reasoning in stages, with two inserts that I found really well seen: ‘Key method’ and ‘Trap to avoid’. In a first specialty exercise dedicated to the second degree, the trap reported is the confusion between the abscissa of the summit and the value of the extremum. Exactly the error found in the copies.

At the end, the student indicates whether he/she has understood or whether he/she is still "bug". All this is covered with experience points, ranks and series of consecutive days. A fairly discreet layer of play, to which some students will be sensitive.

What you can do with your students

The most useful detail for a teacher is not highlighted on the website: each exercise has its own address. You can therefore copy the link of a specific exercise, or of an entire section, and place it in the ENT’s textbook, in Pronote or in a QR code projected in the table.

To differentiate : A single section link, and each student chooses their level. The most comfortable go to the Challenge exercises, the others stay on Standard without feeling left out.

Before an inspection : three or four targeted exercises, with a simple instruction. The process is written on the notebook before entering the result.

Help with homework or personalised support : The course sheet and the clues allow the student to move forward alone while you are travelling.

For students without a computer at home : a smartphone is enough, without an application to install.

For a dys or allophone student, on the other hand, contextualised problems take quite a long time to read, and I have not seen statements read aloud. The course sheet, short and structured, compensates a little.

In the senior year, Matiko covers specialty and expert math. To train on complete bac-type subjects, it will be necessary to complete it with another tool, for example: Maths Forge and his personalized baccalaureate subjects.

From the 5th to the terminal, with a catalogue still under construction

The proposed levels: 5th, 4th, 3rd, second, first specialty, final specialty and expert math. No 6th for the moment, no complementary math or professional path, to my knowledge. For computational automations at the beginning of college, Calculatice remains a good lead.

The site announces more than 200 exercises per level, and the presentation sent by the creator evokes a target of 300, covering the 2026-2027 programs.

Is Matiko really free and without registration?

Yes for the most part. No subscription, no account: the student arrives and starts. According to the privacy policy, progress (points, series, successful exercises) is recorded only in the browser and is never transmitted to the site’s servers.

That said, on the first visit, a banner offers to accept or refuse audience measurement cookies and advertisements, served in particular by Google AdSense. At the moment, the site is perfectly clean and does not offer any advertising. It will be necessary to monitor whether this changes in the future.

Some other things to know. The site is hosted by Render, in the United States, behind Cloudflare. Without taking into account, you have no dashboard, so no way of knowing who did what. On a shared post at the CDI, a student’s progress will remain visible for the next one (a ‘Reset’ link exists at the bottom of the page). Finally, the presentation speaks of a ‘free’ resource, but the legal notices reserve all the rights to the exercises: sharing the links is not a problem, copying the statements in your own sheets implies asking for authorisation.

What I like, what I like less

What I like

No account, neither for you nor for the students.

The ‘Key method’ and ‘Trap to avoid’ inserts, which resemble what is said when correcting the table.

The clues, which push to look before looking at the correction.

One link per exercise, easy to drag into the ENT.

A very successful interface really comfortable on smartphone.

What I like less

No follow-up for the teacher, and that, frankly, is a lack for classroom use.
