The Regional Languages Sound Atlas is a great tool to measure the incredible richness of regional languages and their variations.<\/p>\n

This is an amazing map of France offered by three researchers from the CNRS laboratory UPR3251.<\/strong> It is an Atlas of the regional languages spoken in our country. A somewhat peculiar atlas, it is sonorous. Welcome aboard an amazing linguistic diversity.<\/p>\n

\"Sound<\/p>\n

The map that can be consulted on any web browser is ready to introduce you to no less than a hundred varieties of regional languages. Did you know there were so many? 126 to be very precise.<\/strong> And to make them even more alive, CNRS researchers asked local readers to read the same Aesop fable.<\/p>\n

A sound atlas of all languages of Hexagon<\/h2>\n

Basque, Breton, Catalan, Alsatian, Picard, Corsican, Norman and some of the best. And in each of these great languages you can also discover regional varieties. More than four, for example, in Brittany alone.<\/p>\n

The regional languages sound atlas does not include instructions for use.<\/strong> The colourful map of France is clickable. Every time you click on one of the cities you hear the Aesop fable read in the local language. It is the same reference text \u2018La bise et le soleil\u2019, inspired by a fable by Aesop, which is read \u2013 and written \u2013 126 times. It is a pity that the creators of this very particular disco did not caption each reading with additional information on the language being listened to. On the other hand, most of the time you will be able to get the text in local version.<\/p>\n

European and overseas regional languages<\/h2>\n

This magic box of regional languages does not stop at the borders of Hexagon. You can always use a map to click on records made in the overseas territories. To do this, you must first click on the tabs above the first map.<\/p>\n

\"Sound<\/p>\n

A tab is also dedicated to European regional languages. You will be able to hear this same Aesop fable in dozens of languages and other local patois in Spain, Portugal, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland and Germany. The system remains the same one click on the points located on the map and you immediately hear the poem in the local language. You can even see the text of Aesop in sign language<\/a>. That's great.<\/p>\n
