Founded in 1846, the Smithsonian brings together no less than 21 museums and 9 research centers in Washington.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">In 2026, six years after its launch, Smithsonian Open Access remains one of the largest royalty-free collections available online.<\/p>\n<p>The venerable institution has put online and <strong>in the public domain more than 5.1 million digital items, 2D images and 3D models from its extensive collections<\/strong>.\u00a0Everyone can use and download them for free. You can use the images as they are but also integrate them into other projects.<\/p>\n<p>Launched in February 2020 with 2.8 million images, the collection has continued to grow. It now exceeds 5.1 million items: photos, illustrations, maps, but also interactive 3D models. First of all, you have a search engine that will scan the entire mage database. This is not the most successful thing on the platform.
