An important concept must be added to the search for information, the use of software and, of course, the development of critical thinking: Produce, communicate, share information.

Students must participate in a multimedia cooperative production taking into account the recipients. They must also engage in a project of creation and publication on paper or online useful to a community of users inside or outside the institution that respects information law and ethics. Or they learn to develop cultural practices from digital production tools. Feedback from Joëlle, a high school SVT teacher, who chose to use Adobe Spark with his students.

What is the multimedia project you are implementing with your students?

We are working on climate change and energy as part of the Cycle 4 SVT program. The topic motivates many students, I found it interesting that we could work on a multimedia project related to this topic. The subject makes it possible to identify the impacts of human activities on the environment, to reflect on responsible behaviour choices and to understand individual and collective responsibilities for preserving the planet. Subject still questioned by climate sceptics, we also worked on belief, idea, scientific knowledge.

What software did you use and why?

The students worked with Adobe Spark Video. For many reasons:

The software is free and therefore accessible from students' personal computers. As we worked in project mode in small groups and then created a common video, this was essential.

On the other hand, still in the project mode, sharing is very easy: a simple link makes it possible to play the video, without the need to send it or publish it, which takes time (or sometimes the file is too heavy!).

Finally, contrary to what we think, it is not because we are teenagers today that we know how to use video editing software! It is not innate even for students. But Spark software is really very easy to handle.

On Adobe Spark, students had access to royalty-free photos: this gave me the opportunity to recall what ‘free of rights’, copyright and image rights meant. To explain to them that you can’t do what you want with the images you find on the internet!

Music can be added (free of right too) and again the sharing of the final work was very simple. We did not need to put this video on a YouTube-like platform. We shared the link with the parents and put the video on the college website, very easily. In addition, the creations Adobe Spark are not indexed on Google. Only people with the link can access it. A real plus for confidentiality.

Adobe has chosen to engage with students throughout their educational journey to encourage them to develop their digital skills and creativity.
