The comic book publishers of the Syndicat national de l’édition had the good idea of launching a pedagogical scheme some time ago entitled Comics in the Classroom. It is designed for all professionals working in schools: educators, accompanists, documentalists and teachers.
A third volume of this free series, entitled ‘Ahead of the Adventure!’, has just been published.. It provides teachers with turnkey resources to Exploiting comics in the classroom through two booklets. The first is destined to the teachers, the second to your students. A small novelty: this new edition is not only aimed at Cycle 3 but also opens for Cycle 4, affecting pupils from Grades 1 to 3.

A collection that grows over the years
The collection, launched in 2020 with "Bring in the Monsters!" gradually expanded with ‘Bubbles of nature’ in 2022, exploring environmental issues. Each volume offers an original thematic approach, combining a complete teaching file with student notebooks.
The new volume on adventure enriches the collection with a selection of 21 excerpts from comic books various: Franco-Belgian, international and manga. This variety makes it possible to build reading paths adapted to different levels and pedagogical objectives.
Comprehensive and varied educational resources
The pedagogical file, designed by teaching and comics professionals, offers numerous runways.
The selected excerpts make it possible to address themes on the programme such as imaginary worlds, the figure of the hero, otherness or inequalities. The proposed activities develop both the understanding of comics codes and reading-comprehension skills.
Students are invited to develop their imagination while working on image analysis and writing. The format also allows for discussions on ethical and civic issues, making comics a good transdisciplinary medium.

The pedagogical file proposes as follows:

- Written production : creation of dialogues, invention of sequences of stories
- Visual arts : study of drawing techniques, expressions of characters
- Moral and civic education : debates on otherness, inequalities, engagement

- Exploring imaginary worlds through different genres (fantastic, science fiction)
- Study the figure of the hero in different cultures (French-Belgian, manga)
- Compare adaptations of literary works in comics
- Analyze the representation of emotions in comics
