How to denounce cyberbullying on social networks

Cyberbullying has unfortunately been on the rise for some time. It is believed that nearly 10 % young people are victims of this digital violence on major social networks. The main victims are girls, between the ages of 13 and 16.

Social networks have come to understand the urgency of responding to this phenomenon and have set up special pages to denounce these cases of cyber harassment online. Their speed of reaction has greatly improved. It was time. Cyberbullying is a crime, it can never be said enough. Remember to advise to take screenshots of the offending publications, they will serve as evidence in case of prosecution. They will also be extremely effective in obtaining the closure of harassers’ accounts from social networks.

Here's how to contact the main social networks used by young people to report a case of cyberbullying.

Harassment on Facebook

On Facebook, the easiest way is to go to the harasser’s profile and click on the ‘report’ option. You will then have to complete the proposed form. Facebook will allow you to block it, hide it, send it a message or denounce it for the social network to examine the account in question.

Messenger also has an option in its menu to flag a conversation as spam or abusive.

Facebook also offers a specific page from which to send a complaint, even if you are not registered on the social network. Here too, Facebook will ask you to attach all links to the offending messages.

Harassment on Twitter

Twitter offers a fairly simple reporting system. You can report and report either one or more Tweets or a user’s profile. In both cases, Twitter allows this to be done directly from the app or website on the web. You must click on the three small dots in the menu of a tweet or on the notched wheel that appears to the right of the full profile.

Both Twitter and Facebook also offer a specific web page with a form to fill out to explain the type of harassment and the accounts reported.  In the event of a report of cyberbullying, Twitter will send you a copy of the complaint once the form has been sent, which can be provided to the police.

Harassment on Snapchat

Snapchat only offers an online form to report digital harassment. Yet the network is about to become the one that young people prefer over all others. Form in English where you will be asked to provide your or the victim’s credentials, the name of the perpetrator, the date(s) on which the messages were sent and a description of the case.

Harassment on YouTube

Google has also planned a reporting system on its YouTube video platform. You have to go to the criminal video and click on the three small dots on the right underneath the video. You will then see a menu that will allow you to report the video. YouTube teams are particularly quick to react.

Harassment on Instagram

The photo social network is also widely used by young people. Instagram, which is owned by Facebook, has a dedicated webpage where you can submit your complaint.On Instagram’s mobile apps, you can do so by clicking on the three small dots in the menus under each image.
