WordBrewery is an online platform that will help you develop your basic vocabulary in a foreign language. It is based on sentences extracted daily from press articles.

How to practice a language with everyday phrases when you are not immersed in the reality of a country? WordBrewery offers an answer with a web-based application for learning original languages based on current events from which are extracted small sentences to learn or revise the basic vocabulary of the language studied.

WordBrewerry calculated that the 2500 most common words in any language are 95 % Daily vocabulary. These words are the priority that the tool will try to make you memorise from sentences taken from the news.

WordBrewery offers no less than 19 languages to study.

You will be able to choose a level to start: beginner, intermediate or expert. The tool will then adapt to your level automatically depending on your use and results. WordBrewerry will offer you short sentences one after the other. Each of them is read aloud by a synthetic voice of medium but acceptable quality. You can get the translation with one click. You can also follow a link to the news article from which it was extracted. You can finally add the phrase to personal lists that you can create so you can come back to it later.

When you click on a word in a sentence, you get its definition, you can display other sentences in which it is used, you can also add it to one of your word lists.

These lists will then allow you to ask WordBrewerry for review and exercise sequences focused on one or more of them. Practical. The platform also offers ready-made lessons with, for example, 50 current affairs phrases in Spanish using the verb ‘Ser’. 50 sentences in English to differentiate between "who" and "who", etc.

WordBrewerry provides detailed statistics on the learner’s progress and helps to focus on bottlenecks by identifying difficulties. You can print your word or sentence lists and even export them in .csv format. You can also import them into memory card programs such as Memrise or Quizlet.

The free version of WordBrewery allows you to work 30 new sentences per month which is a bit light. The paid version starts at about 4 euros per month.
