How to create a discussion group by email? Say hello to Framagroupes.

There are no longer many online services that make it easy to create a mailing list or an exchange group by email.

If you are looking for a free and free service in which your data is well-kept, it is even more difficult. There were so far Framalistes proposed by my friends at Framasoft. Yes, but here it is, the service is full and requires time-consuming maintenance. As a result, it has not been possible to create a new list for some time now.

Despite social networks and instant messaging, the need for a place to chat by email is still real. Framasoft has just launched an answer to this question. the brand new Framagroupes service. We can thank them 🙏.

A new place for e-mail exchanges with some small limitations

Framagroupes is the worthy successor of Framalistes. Note, moreover, that the latter does not close its doors. Simply, it no longer allows you to create new groups.

With Framagroupes, you have the possibility to create discussion groups by email. By joining your group, members will have access to the emails exchanged and will be able to participate in the exchanges. You are the owner of the group and can decide whether it is private or semi-private.

Drawing lessons from the Framalist experience, Framagroupes has some understandable limitations for a free service run by free activists.
Among them:

• Groups may not exceed 500 subscribers.
• Themass addition of subscribers and fully open and public lists shall be prohibited.
• Lists that have not been used for a year will be automatically closed.

Common sense restrictions to also preserve the reputation of the servers sending the messages and ensure that they end up in the recipients’ inboxes and not in the spam filters.

Create an email exchange list or search for discussion groups

To use Framagroupes you need to register on Frama. You can go there with confidence, the creators of Framasoft services are irreducible of the protection of private data.

You must therefore create an account on Framagroupes to open, set up and manage your mailing list, or simply to search for the groups you are interested in and manage your subscriptions to the different mailing groups.
