Caramel in two words
Caramel is an open source application, created by two teachers: Gauthier Remande (Nantes Academy) and Emmanuel Gaunard (Grenoble Academy). It relies on AI to generate educational activities from your documents or a simple context (discipline, level, objective). Their idea: enable you to quickly design interactive activities without mastering the H5P production line.
The tool lives on the Forge des Educational Digital Commons, in the AppsEducation ecosystem. The guarantee that you are in good hands.
Your data will remain in your browser: Nothing goes to an external server. An important point to work in a framework that complies with the GDPR and the protection of educational data.
Generate H5P activities with AI
You drive, AI executes. Tell Caramel what you want: an SVT quiz for 4ths, a text with holes in English level A2, a chrono frieze in history. Add a document if you want, or not.
Caramel translates your request into an AI-enabled query and then transforms the resulting response into a directly editable H5P activity. It retrieves the response and transforms it into H5P, MBZ file for Moodle/Éléa/Magistère. You then edit the result in theH5P Editor classic.

Choose discipline, level, type of activity (quiz, drag-and-drop, crossword puzzle, … memory card).
Paste an extract from the course or leave empty. Click on “Generate”.
Download the H5P or MBZ file. Import into your ENT, Moodle or Elea.
Always review the result. Adjust questions, instructions, difficulty. AI is proposing, you are fine-tuning.
An advanced mode makes it possible to go further in the instructions. Above all, it gives you the opportunity to request that theAI works exclusively from your documents. You can paste your text into it or drop your files.

Caramel covers quizzes, hole texts, chronological friezes, interactive maps, drag-and-drop, pairings, crossword puzzles. The tool offers twenty five different generators. Examples of disciplinary practices
In SVT: Turn a TP into verification questions or protocol to put back in order. Useful to consolidate the scientific process after manipulation.
In French: Generate vocabulary exercises or comprehension on a literary excerpt. Practical for preparing an analytical reading or work on the implicit.
In math: Create quizzes on fractions or geometry from your cards. Interesting to offer autonomous training upstream of an evaluation.

Security and technical simplicity
Free, no registration, 100 % local. Your docs don't move from your machine. Imported content is not transmitted to external servers. The student tracks? Managed by your platform (Moodle, Éléa…), not by Caramel.
No advanced ENT? Export H5P and host on a WordPress with H5P plugin, or project in class. With Moodle/Éléa/Magistère, integration takes place as an import. A flexible solution that can be used both in person and remotely.

Students then access the exercise from their browser, without an account.

The Limits to Know Before You Start
Caramel simplifies life, but does not work miracles. AI sometimes generates questions that are imprecise or too general: Review systematically to stick to your specific goals. Verification is essential, particularly in terms of scientific or technical content. You will spend time correcting if your entry document lacks clarity or if the educational context remains too vague.
Caramel is rather suitable for short and repetitive activities, less on sophisticated pedagogical scenarios requiring real didactic engineering. It speeds up your routines, not your ambitious plans. And like any young tool, interface bugs or unforeseen developments can arise: Patience, the community follows.
