Update November 2017 – The site no longer exists.
Stipple is an online tool that will allow you toinject multimedia into your images.
Stipple has not been developed specifically for the world of education, but it can be very practical for a teacher who wants to offer an image enriched by multimedia elements. This service is very simple to use and allows pins to be inserted into an image linked to various content such as links, captions, other images or sound and video.
Stipple is quite similar to the excellent ThingLink we talked about here on Tools TICE. After a quick registration on the service, Stipple will offer you to upload your image(s). Then simply drag pins to the places you want to enrich in the photo. Each pin editable and can be linked to a multimedia element. When the reader discovers your image, they will display the insertion points by dragging their mouse cursor over the photo. By clicking on one of the points, he will be able to discover the associated multimedia content.
Stipple provides for each of your images simple ways to share it. By email, on social networks, but the site also provides a copy-paste code that will allow you to insert it into a site or blog. In addition to its ease of use and implementation for creating interactive images, Stipple offers a very comprehensive statistics service who will inform you about the life of your images online. You will know how many people viewed them, but also whether they were shared on other sites or on networks. A real tracking tool for a fine control of each of your images.
In the classroom.
Stipple is simple and complete. It can allow you to offer commented or enriched images to illustrate a course or notion. The service can also be used by a group of students to aggregate concepts and resources found on the web around an image.
Last interesting point, Stipple has just launched a mobile version of its tool. The service is now available and usable from a simple iPhone.
