ScissorsFly is an online service that allows capturing easily snippets of web page  and pin them to virtual boards.

ScissorsFly works a little like Pinterest, but with much more flexibility in the capture of web page snippets and in the editing and organisation of its collections. The symbol of this online service is a pair of scissors. The analogy is telling, because scissorsfly will really allow you to virtually cut out part of what you have on screen in your browser.

Scissorsfly takes the form ofan extension for your Chrome browser. Once installed, you will be able to keep bits of web pages during your navigations with a single click. Scissorsfly will display a small menu bar with scrapbooking tools. They make it possible to draw a free shape with a pair of scissors, to draw a square, to make a complete capture of the screen, to clip an image or a map.

These ‘extracts’ from the web will be pinned on virtual cork boards, sorts of notebooks. You can create as many as you want and classify your web snippets. One of Scissorfly’s strengths is that it gives you the freedom to rearrange your pins by simply dragging and dropping. You can also add text and images.

These virtual tables or notebooks can be public or private. They can be shared on the web, by email or on social networks. Like social networks such as Pinterest, Scissorsfly makes it possible to follow the tables of other users, to ‘like’ their pins and even to retrieve them in order to add them to its own collections.

In the classroom.

Very easy to use, Scissorsfly allows you to create a lesson to share with resources found online. The tool can also be offered to students to enable them to present the edited results of a literature search on the web.
