What educational kit should be used to teach generative AI in college?
Generative AI is now part of the digital environment for adolescents. Many professors and documentalists are now looking for reliable resources to address artificial intelligence in the classroom. Generative artificial intelligence is already transforming students’ digital uses. Production of texts, creation of images, search for information or help with homework: these tools are now present in their daily lives.
The challenge for teachers is therefore to support students in a thoughtful and responsible use of these technologies.
The Media Smart kit offers a pedagogical approach that allows middle school students to:
- understand what generative artificial intelligence is;
- find out how AIs produce their answers;
- identify limits and risks of error;
- question the reliability of the information;

How to approach generative AI in NDE and EMC?
One of the most frequently asked questions by teachers is: how to integrate generative AI into school curricula without being an expert on the subject?
The Media Smart kit has been designed specifically to address this issue.
Designed for the courses ofMedia and Information Education (MIE), dMoral and Civic Education (EMC) as well as for interdisciplinary projects, it provides turnkey activities enabling essential skills to be worked on:
- distinguish facts, opinions and generated content;
- verifying information and its sources;
- understand the concept of prompt;
- analyse content production mechanisms;
- discuss opportunities and risks related to AI;
- develop argumentation and critical thinking.
What activities can be offered to students on generative AI?
The kit includes a set of ready-to-use educational activities to make the topic concrete and accessible.
Students may in particular:
- discover the history of artificial intelligence;
- experiment with creating instructions or ‘prompt’ instructions with or without a screen;
- compare AI-generated outputs;
- analyse the quality of the answers provided;
- participate in well-argued debates on the uses of AI;
- explore the transformations of the communication and media professions.
The module integrates 5 pedagogical workshops from 20 minutes to 1 hour for a total duration of approximately 2 hours 30 minutes.

This is why AI education is not just about learning how to use these technologies. It also aims to teach students to question the results obtained, verify the information, understand the role of the human behind the tools and exercise their judgment.
