TedEd is an online tool that allows to create interactive video lessons and offer them to your students.
Very easy to use, this platform is linked to the international foundation that offers TED Conferences (Technology, Entertainment and Design). This foundation was created to disseminate “ideas worth disseminating” (in English: ideas worth spreading ").
The TedEd video editor is free to share any video on YouTube complementing it with interactive enrichments. After a quick registration on the site, you will be able to create your first lesson in video.
Just enter the YouTube URL of the video you want to use. TedEd will import it. You can then give it a personalized title and a description. You can also choose to make your video public, so that it is listed and accessible to all visitors to the platform, or keep it private and share it only with people of your choice.
Under the video player, you have access to four menus: Watch , Think, Dig Deeper, Discuss, …and finally
It is in these menus that you will be able to complement and solicit the reflection and work of your students.
- Think. Allows you to introduce questions to survey your students or learners. You can create simple questions of two types. Either multiple-choice questions or open-ended questions.
- Dig Deeper. Makes it possible to go further by adding to the concepts covered by the video. You can write a text, propose additional references, indicate additional search tracks in 5000 characters maximum.
- Discuss. Allows you to create discussions with your learners. A kind of discussion forum integrated with basic but sufficient functions.
… and finally is the place for the word of the end. In a few lines, the possibility for you to close the chapter and why not open the next one.
Once validated, your lesson is ready to be shared via email or social media. More interestingly, TedEd will provide you with fairly complete consultation statistics with the number of students who have answered the quizzes or the number of open discussions.
A simple and quite practical tool for the inverted class or to offer supplements to lessons seen in class. Use is free of charge and without advertising. On the negative side, we will regret that the platform is in English. More annoying, the obligation to register online to create lessons but also … to answer questions or participate in integrated discussions.
