Based on the Flickr API, VisualHunt does wonders with a particularly fast search engine and a huge choice illustrations with a licence in Creative Commons. You can use several filters depending on the usage rights. Authorized commercial use, unauthorized or images belonging to the public domain. VisualHunt offers 15,000 in the latter field all classified by hand.
Another interesting search option is the ability to filter results by color. VisualHunt offers a colour chart of around ten colours. Depending on the color chosen, the engine will display the images that will have this color dominant. You can also use natural language queries. If you're looking for flowers.
