With Van Gogh at school, the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam inaugurates the French version Online educational resources proposed by the museum on the occasion of the painter’s birthday on 30 March. A real good news, it is a platform and very high quality resources offered to all teachers, students and beyond to all lovers of the painter’s work.

Van Gogh at school offers teachers of ̂ students aged 4 to 18 the opportunity to teach in the classroom or online about the life and work of the great painter.

Van Gogh at school proposes conline bear and free resources at school and at home

Over the past five years, no less than 4 million pupils have been able to benefit from the resources offered by the Musée grâce to the Dutch and English versions of Van Gogh at school. The lockdown undoubtedly contributed to this audience success, but also to the quality of the resources proposed. The large Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam has therefore decided to make the platform also available to French-speaking countries. (France, Belgium, Canada, Switzerland and Luxembourg…)

Courses can be delivered directly from an interactive whiteboard, using a projector or computer. They consist of different elements such as images, videos, exercises and interactive quizzes.

The Van Gogh School Platform’s resources are divided into two main sections depending on the age of the students for whom they are intended.

Resources for primary school to discover the painter’s work

This section proposes digital resources and reproductions for all levels of primary education. All activities can be done in class collectively or at home individually.
Nineteen major lessons are ready for use. You can sort by age, content type or subject including handicrafts, drawing, art, languages, history and geography.

In this part of the site, we find the resources for college and high school. A little less provided than the previous one, this section offers a dozen pedagogical sequences ready to be used in class. Well thought out sequences to involve students. They last an average of 20 to 30 minutes. You will find a great interactive Goose Game to play with Van Gogh or a self-portrait course scenario where after discovering the structure of the face through Van Gogh’s work, young people are invited to draw their own self-portrait.

Van Gogh at school is another great resource to add to the many sites of major museums and cultural institutions around the world that have been able to use digital technology to give a new visibility and a tremendous influence to their collections.
