Authorea is a CTBT tool that makes it possible towriting scientific texts in collaborative mode.
Authorea has been designed by researchers for researchers within Harvard University itself. This specialised word processor will be of interest to all students, researchers and scientists who need an online platform to centralise their work. Authorea is a collaborative platform for research on which you will be able to write and manage all your technical documents.
Authorea is first of all a complete word processor, very easy to use, allowing images, equations and any kind of objects to be inserted by simple drag and drop. The tool makes it possible to build an index of the article on the fly allowing easy navigation in long documents.
In addition to the index, Authorea facilitatesinsertion of citations in your text through an internal search engine. Each citation will be automatically inserted into the document in the correct format as well as the reference to the source at the end of the text. You will have a bibliography ready without even realizing it.
Apart from these very useful functions, one of Authorea’s main strengths is the possibility to work together on the same document. Well thought out collaborative work functions. All you have to do is to invite your colleagues by e-mail, so that they can in turn intervene on the text. When you intervene on a paragraph, you have the possibility to block it in edition to be the only one to be able to make changes to it.
Authorea obviously saves all the changes made and allows you to go back to previous versions as well as compare several versions. The tool also offers a commenting system to be able to exchange between authors in a private way. There is also a public comment function to allow readers of a free document to comment on a particular passage.
Authorea finally proposes a system for publishing finalised articles with built-in templates that will take care of shaping your work.
Authorea is a serious and flawless solution for drafting and working in groups on research papers. The service is free as long as you accept that your documents are public. If you want to keep some of them confidential, you will have to go through a paid subscription to the service.
