H5P is an online toolbox that allows interactivity to be inserted into a video. A great tool to make your students active when you offer them video support.
H5P is a rich toolkit that does much more than just interactive videos. We will return in another article on the many functions available to create educational material, but this time we will focus only on its video editor.
The tool is quite simple to use directly from any browser, but you can also install a plugin for WordPress, Drupal or Moodle and thus have access to the tool directly from these different CMS.
Using the online publisher is quite simple. First you need to add the video you want to work with. You can upload a video from your computer or indicate the URL of a video on YouTube. If you upload a file, it must not exceed 16mo. Add a title and description to your video and choose between different presentation options.
Once the video is installed on H5P, you will be able to insert interactions by clicking on the tab of the editor that allows it. No less than 14 types of interactions are possible. You install them from a menu bar by dragging them onto the video and choosing when you want them to appear while your video is streaming.
You can add text, images, links to other resources, buttons to open forms, etc. Perhaps one of the most useful interactions is the ability to interstitute questions. Ideal for students to test their understanding of a point in the video. Single-choice or multiple-choice question with immediate self-correction. That's great. H5P allows you to install as many interactions as you want on a video. All actions remain editable at all times. They appear with insertion points in the timeline, allowing you to move from one point to another without having to view the document each time.
H5P also allows dinstall at the end of the video a kind of summary of the results obtained by the student. You will be able to insert comments according to the different questions and the scores obtained. When reading the results, the student will be encouraged if necessary to repeat the test by watching the video again.
The platform then allows you to save your work and provides a link and code to share your video or insert it into a website or blog.
