Irepeatit. Improve its pronunciation in English

Last updated on 24 June 2017

Our multimedia computers and advances in speech recognition have seriously shaken up the tools and methods for learning a foreign language. Irepeatit is a good example of this ongoing mutation. This small application allows you to practice repeating sentences in English and thus improve your pronunciation.

Irepeatit is one of those little gems that make our computers and laptops incredible educational tools. Developed by two young students of Telecom Nancy, this application is ingenious, simple, practical and free. It will allow you to work your pronunciation of English like these three services I introduced you here a few weeks ago.

After a quick registration to the service, Irepeatit will ask you for permission to use the built-in microphone on your computer. It is then up to you to choose from a series of turnkey exercises in English. Don't worry, you can then create exercises yourself with your own texts. IrepeatIt listens to you and asks you to pronounce the sentences that appear on the screen. If your pronunciation is good, the platform will congratulate you and reward you with points that you will be able to accumulate.

Practical you will be able to see in real time the words that are recognized by the software and those that are not. One click and you will be able to listen to the sentence spoken by the computer’s synthesis voice. Don't know how to pronounce a word or phrase? Another click and you can move on to the next sentence.

A simple and efficient system in an interface without unnecessary distractions. The words or phrases to be pronounced are displayed full screen. One icon to listen to the right pronunciation, another to move on to the next sentence. A progress bar above the screen tracks your progress in the current exercise and totals the points earned through your efforts.

IrepeatIt is played for free from your Chrome browser. You can also train with your smartphone. An application available only on iOS and for which you will have to pay a small euro. The two young creators of IrepeatIt deserve a small reward.

  1. What about French? Anything equivalent? It would be great for this back to school 🙂
