A few days ago I introduced you here 3 tools to learn a language with movie subtitles, CaptionPop deserved to be included.

A rather original idea, this platform allows you to watch videos on YouTube by displaying subtitles in two languages. To start with, simply enter your mother tongue and then the language you are learning. Several dozen languages are available.

Once configured, CaptionPop will offer you Search YouTube for videos with a word, name or expression. You will immediately see a list of videos available in both languages. Type "TED" for example to access the famous conferences often of high quality. You can also aim for music videos that should win the votes of your students.

A smart video player

All you have to do is watch the chosen video. The creators of CaptioPop did it right by offering a smart video player well suited for learn a language with YouTube.

As soon as the video is launched, the subtitles of the target language are displayed. They appear slightly out of line with the subtitles of your mother tongue. Ideal to first try to understand the language you are learning before checking in your own language. It is even quite ingenious. Another good idea is the possibility to browse the whole text via the subtitles and thus switch from one extract to another by clicking on it.

CaptionPop still allows you to pause, but also slow down the video to allow you to better understand. You can also repeat as many times as you want an excerpt to work the pronunciation for example.

Last option very convenient too, you can set aside subtitles so you can come back to them later.

A simple and free tool to learn a language with YouTube

CaptionPop is still under development, but it is free and fully operational. The search engine of the tool seems to exclude any explicit content which is a great thing. Adopted.
