How to find free images for use in class? If you are looking for sites to search for photos or illustration images for your classes or for a class blog, here is a selection of five online resources that offer free photos.

What sites for you but also what sites to advise your students to find quality images of the public domain or free.

Some time ago, I had already devoted another article to 3 free image banks, here is what to complete this first list Before using one of the images of these sites, do not forget to check the allocation rights and identify the Creative Commons license used.

Photos For Class

Photos 4 class

As indicated by this search engine, images can be found that are suitable for use in schools. Images uploaded from Photos For Class the class are accompanied by a short quote that includes the author’s name and the image’s license terms. Practical. The search engine is in English but we can very well make queries in French. The site is a bit slow but the idea is good.

This site also bears his name (in English). The site offers a library of images suitable for education and completely free of charge. Teachers and students can use photos and illustrations for classroom projects, websites, videos, portfolios or any other project in an educational context. Only small flaw, the site is entirely in English and the integrated search engine understands only this language. To help you, the site also offers a classification by categories.

The Commons

The commons

Here is an interesting archive created and maintained by the Flickr service. It lists and makes available the photographic archives of public institutions, mainly in the United States. We find small treasures by looking well. Images in Creative Commons, which must be checked each time for usage authorisations.

For further use you also have the possibility to call on EveryPixel. A pretty powerful search engine. It references no less than 50 free or royalty-free photo databases. Be careful to use the "Only free images" filter to have access to photos that can be used for free. EveryPixel allows, among other things, to specify the dominant color of the photos sought or to choose vertical or horizontal images.
