Ridisi, an original word processor for learning to read

I stumbled upon theRidisi App, an online word processor designed specifically for helping children in learning Reading. I was packed. Absolute crush.

How to help children but also the adults to enter reading? Three Breton teachers, Frédéric Grasbon, Nicolas Le Doussal and Pierre-Marie Le Guilcher, had the idea of creating a digital tool to facilitate reading, based on on their experience as teachers. They made a remarkable work.

A great tool for differentiating teaching from reading and personalising documents for each student.

Ridisi: What is it and how does it work? ?

Ridisi is an online word processor that offers educators the opportunity to create and edit texts while using various reading aid systems.

This service also makes it possible to differentiate working documents for pupils by adapting to their individual reading level. Ridisi offers total individualization in just a few clicks, making it a valuable tool to meet the specific needs of each student.

The features of Ridisi

Add reading aids

Ridisi makes it possible to integrate several levels of reading aid according to the needs of each student. Among the aids available is the personalised display of pictograms. As for thePictofacile Tool which was mentioned here recently, pictograms are great and it changes all …

Ridisi provides more than 400 pictograms representing the sounds of French. Users can choose from these pictos or create their own. The aim is to give children stimulating visual support to help them decipher and read in a playful way.

The tool also makes it possible to play on the spacing between letters and lines, to highlight silent graphemes, the numbering of trigrams (consonant-consonant-vowel) and the underlining of complex graphemes. It will be very useful for Helping DYS Children for example.

Reading Learning

These visual aids allow students to better understand and assimilate words and sentences, thus facilitating their learning to read.

Word processing functions

In addition to reading aids, Ridisi offers all the essential functions of a classic word processor. You can adjust the size of the text (with three different options), align the text, and perform all basic operations such as formatting, spelling correction, and copy-pasting. Ridisi is therefore a comprehensive tool that combines the functionality of traditional word processing with specific reading aids.

Unlimited creation of texts

With Ridisi, you can create an unlimited number of texts and organize them into thematic directories or sequences. This feature allows you to prepare resources adapted to your different courses and find them easily when you need them. You can also share your texts with your colleagues to foster collaboration and exchange of educational resources.

Ridisi allows teachers to manage up to 32 students or groups with differentiated profiles. You can easily adjust the reading aid settings for each student based on their reading level. This feature allows you to personalise each student’s learning experience and provide them with resources tailored to their specific needs.

This is one of the major strengths of this solution.

Grids and pictogram bank

Ridisi offers a predefined pictogram grid, but you can also create your own grid based on your preferences. With over 400 pictograms available (and new ones added regularly), you can customize visual resources for each student. This feature is particularly useful for students with specific needs, such as children with learning disabilities or visual impairments.

Custom export in PDF

With Ridisi, you can export all your custom texts to PDF in one click. Each PDF sheet will include the student’s first name to facilitate distribution. This feature is ultra convenient for sharing texts with students or parents, or for building digital portfolios.

Other upcoming functions for non-Francophone students

As I said, the creators of Ridisi continue to work on improving their tool. Among them, they planned to multiply specific pictograms for allophones: a black pictogram when the sound is common between the original language and French and a white pictogram when the sound does not exist in the original language.

A first grid has been created for Arabic. Other languages should appear in the software afterwards: German, English, Italian, Spanish, Ukrainian, Turkish, Russian …

Ideas for use in the classroom

It is very easy to integrate Ridisi into its preparations. To work on reading, there are many ideas for use. You can:
