Two mobile wordbooks to enrich your vocabulary in a foreign language

Last updated on 24 December 2022

How can you enrich your vocabulary with new words when learning a foreign language? No more small paper notebooks where new words were lovingly noted so that they could be found and memorised. The smartphone revolution has gone through this and now offers dedicated applications that offer many advantages over paper.

Here are two of them. One is for smartphones running Android, the second is for those of you with iPhones.

4cards for Android. Learn four new words a day.

4 cards

The designers of this application have done their calculations. 4Cards teaches one word at a time, 4 words in a day, which means that a person can learn more than 1400 words in a year. It is unstoppable if you stick to a certain discipline.

4Cards also shows the meaning of the words in the user’s native language to allow for better memorisation. The app also encourages the user to answer a Quiz in the evening just before sleeping so that they can revise the words they learned that day. 4Cards also offers examples of sentences incorporating the words of the day to see them in situation. Practical. Note that the application does not need an internet connection to work.

Reji for iOs. Enrich your vocabulary in 46 different languages

vocabulary book

Reji for iPhone users offers a lot more options than the previous app, but it will take you to take out your wallet and spend just under €7 to buy it. Reji will allow you to quickly save your vocabulary in one of the 46 supported languages. You can then learn it and review it regularly through tests and small games. Reji’s learning mode is based on an algorithm that calculates and reminds you when you need to repeat your words to maximise the chances of memorising them once and for all.

Very handy to help you grasp new words very quickly. Simply type new words into the app, and it will automatically find the translation, definition and images to illustrate it.
