Histography. An interactive infographic of human history

Last updated on 12 May 2026

Histography is a crazy and disproportionate project that presents through an interactive chronological frieze the history of humankind from the Big Bang to 2015. Just that.

A real crush for my part for this project one of the great schools of fine arts in Israel which is a vivid example of the power of datavisualization.

Histography is an encyclopaedic online tool for approaching history through a gigantic chronological frieze that makes it possible toanalyse events at the same time in a simple and illustrated way. Clouds of points. Thousands of points related to the history of humanity linked together and arranged by date on a timeline.

The source of Histography? Wikipedia simply. The creators of this infographic managed to graphically represent all the richness contained in the great collaborative encyclopedia.

Just move the time slider to set the period you want to view. Thousands of points will come to line up above. By hovering your cursor over each of them, you will have access to a quick summary of the event.

By clicking on it you can access the full factsheet and the possibility to read the full article on Wikipedia, to consult the related articles They will also appear in the infographic or consult multimedia content, most of the time they are videos. That's great. You can walk from one point to another, but also through a whole series of categories offered on a menu to the left of the frieze.

I have just spent a long time walking through the points, periods and connections between events. A real treat. The realization is just impeccable. Fluid, elegant, intuitive. The creators of histography have even thought of a sound cladding (which you can cut ) to allow you to immerse yourself in this gigantic well dedicated to our history.

Histography is free and available to everyone. I am sure that this site will become a reference, especially since it is set to last. Its creators have succeeded in ensuring that the frieze continues to grow on its own as new Wikipedia publications are published. Great, I highly recommend the visit.

Thank you very much Elisabeth for this clarification. I actually tested it only on my usual Chrome browser. Thank you for your help and good day.

Thank you for this discovery (…among many others). This site should quickly become unavoidable , if not indispensable .
I will report it tomorrow to my students!
