FlipWord is a brand new tool that will Turn your web browser into a great tool for learning a foreign language. The service is still in development but I predict a promising future for it.
FlipWord is running for the moment, but once again it is only in its infancy, in the form ofan extension for Chrome. Once installed, you will choose your mother tongue and then the language you are learning. From that moment on, the tool will automatically turn your daily web usage into a permanent learning session.
When you browse the web and randomly, some words will appear underlined and translated into the language you want to learn. A particularly effective translation in the context to understand, memorize and enrich your vocabulary. But that is not all. By hovering your mouse over the word or group of words you will hear it spoken aloud.
A small box opens automatically without leaving the page where you have access to the translation. The ability to rehear the word out loud, write it yourself as you would in a notebook, pronounce it yourself out loud or access a video, for example a clip of a song, containing the word.
We're getting into the game fast. Especially since each time you score points that will make you climb into a virtual ranking bringing together all the users of the extension. The playful side is one of the strengths of FlipWord. Gradually, your randomly underlined words will appear in the pages you visit in quizzes and games to test your memory and understanding of the language.
The other strength of FlipWord is to make it possible to integrate language learning into your daily routine. when you are browsing the web. You do not need to say to yourself: I'll start learning. FlipWord does this for you by analyzing the pages you read.
FlipWorld accompanies you throughout your navigation including when you are for example on your social networks Twitter or Facebook.
Note that you can at any time simply click on the extension icon to pause it for a period of time that you will set yourself.
That's quite a good idea. a group of US students still looking for funding to develop their project. Apps for mobile and tablets and compatibility with other browsers are expected to emerge in the coming weeks. I hope that the French language will also appear in the next few versions. At the moment, the tool under development only allows to choose English as the language of origin and some languages such as Spanish or Chinese as the languages of learning.
