Appreciate here as appropriate the initiative of the ‘Les Chatons’ collective which has set up a page containing a dozen free online services that can be used during the lockdown period for remote work. A collaborative spreadsheet? Need a videoconference? How to share large files with your students confidentially?
Here is a page of free and free resources that meet the most classic needs. Free tools without prior registration that have the merit of respecting the confidentiality of your data. An alternative to the services offered by the giants of the Web.
Free online services offered by the collective Chatons
The collective Chatons besides a nice name is a trusted actor. It was launched at the initiative of Framasoft of which I have already spoken here. Kittens is the Collective of Alternative, Transparent, Open, Neutral and Solidarity Hosts. Just that. It brings together structures wishing to avoid the collection and centralization of personal data. The collective brings together to date more than 70 structures that offer free, ethical, decentralized and solidarity-based online services.
The portal set up on the occasion of the lockdown makes it possible to quickly find alternatives to the services offered by the web giants.
A simplified portal for access to free online services without registration and meeting the most common needs
You can put the kittens page as a favorite. The nine free online services offered are very convenient for many uses. You have a tool to write collaboratively in real time on a pad. A Jitsi videoconferencing tool that launches with a click. Also on the menu is a collaborative spreadsheet, a system for sharing large files confidentially and without registration or a link shortener without registration.
You do not need to register to use any of the services. You launch the tool directly from the portal. It is simple and fast. Each service is presented in detail. Just click on the "Documentation" button. You can also change the host with one click. Most of the hosts gathered in the collective Kittens offer all these tools. If one of them is cluttered or unavailable, you can change it with one click.
An excellent initiative to popularise the use of free online tools and services.
Another good news is that the kittens announce their intention to maintain this page beyond the lockdown time and even to enrich it in the coming weeks/months. To be followed, then.
