How to read the essentials of an article found on the web without being distracted by the usual requests that encourage you to click and surf from one site to another?
Removing unnecessary distractions to focus on the essentials is the promise ofOutline, a small free application that will do the cleaning for you in the articles you consult on the web.

Outline is one of the tools that makes it easier to read web pages by trying toeliminate any unnecessary distraction.
Outline removes ads, graphics, and other distractions to give you a studious reading experience
Very simple to use, this online application is ideal for working online on web articles as part of a study or research. You have nothing to install. Just go to the Outline homepage and paste the URL address of the article you want to view.
A click later, the article will be displayed in its entirety. Anything that could harm its reading has magically disappeared. The app prioritises text and gets rid of unnecessary ads, links and illustrations. By the way, the service provides you at the bottom of the page with a unique URL that will allow you to share the article in its simplified form. Practical.
A tool to highlight or annotate important passages in an article
The other great function of Outline is to allow you to annotate or highlight passages in the text so that you can easily find them or to indicate important passages in an article before sharing them.

An annotate button appears on the simplified page of your article after it has passed through the Outline reel. All you need to do is activate the one-click function. From then on you will be able to highlight in color passages of the text or insert annotations through a context menu. If you register online, Outline will even keep them in memory and you will be able to find a list of all the articles and all your annotations.
Outline is completely free and ad-free. A good tool for researchers, teachers and students.
Updated February 2023. Unfortunately, the Outline project has been stopped. The site no longer exists and has landed free, useful and regretted projects in the cemetery.
Outline was part of the list of small simple but very practical utilities for annotate web pages. You will be able to find an alternative.
