Playing with Google Arts and Culture

Last updated on 12 May 2026

Google Arts and Culture The portal of the Californian giant dedicated to all artistic forms. A service of breathtaking richness that puts hundreds of museums around the world and millions of works of art they contain in the palm of your hand, thanks in particular to smartphone or tablet apps.

I'm not a Google fan, but some of its services are simply amazing. This is the case for Google Arts and Culture of which I have already said all the good I thought in a previous article dedicated to its mobile version.

I have not changed my mind, especially since this huge artistic database made available to everyone on the net continues to grow steadily. Google has also made it a showcase of its technological know-how. Some examples can be found in a new section where the portal offers games to have fun with art.

In this part of the Google Arts website you will find more than 30 games. All are free and particularly well done. Only a few regrets are offered only in English.

Difficult to quote them all or detail them here. I selected six. Six activities to play with Google Arts and Culture that may surprise you. I'll let you discover all the others.

Art Selfie. Browse through thousands of artworks to see if any of the characters look like you

Art Selfie is another way to discover the works of art exhibited all over the world. What if you had a lookalike somewhere on a master painting. A pictorial lookalike among thousands of paintings listed by Google. Once you have installed the Google Arts and Culture app on your smartphone or tablet, go to the games section symbolised by a gamepad. Then look for Art Selfie. You will then be able to take a selfie or choose a portrait of your photo library. Google will analyze the features of your face and then offer you the most similar portraits. Sometimes it’s spectacular!

If you do not dare to face the challenge, Google Arts and Culture offers exactly the same game but with the head of your cat this time.

3D Pottery. Play with Google Arts and Culture to reproduce antique pottery

The aim here is to put your hands in the dough or rather your hands in the ground. This other virtual game offers you a virtual potter's trick in which you go from the tip of your mouse to reproduce an antique jar. Don't worry, Google is gradually guiding you and helping you make this virtual copy. You will model it, then paint it and finally put it in the oven. Surprising experience. For make your virtual pottery here.

Paint in Music. Your brushes become musical instruments

Paint in music will make the link between painting and music. Very nicely made, you have access to a virtual white canvas on which you will be able to express yourself with a palette of brushes and colors. But beware, brushes can also be associated with musical instruments. You will paint and compose a piece. The whole thing can then be saved to be re-listened. Very pretty. Painting in music.

Puzzle Party. Make puzzles to solve online with great painting paintings

Puzzle Party does not require instructions for use. Google Art and Culture invites you to solve a puzzle composed from one of the large paintings in the painting. It is up to you to put the pieces back in order on the screen. This game suitable for all audiences is played alone or with several.

Art Coloring Book - Make colouring pages with reproductions of renowned works

A small place in this selection for the pretty coloring book proposed by Google Arts. Around 30 works are proposed. Choose the one you want to use and then launch the game. The table is immediately displayed in black and white above a colour chart. It is up to you to apply the right colour to the table.  Note that you can also print the canvas so that you can use good old coloured pencils.

Odd One Out – Identify works of art made by artificial intelligence

This is one of the last activities to have integrated this virtual game case. A game to say the least disturbing. Google offers four sets of four images of works of art in a limited time. In each set of images, one of them represents a work that does not exist! It was created by artificial intelligence. Can you identify him?

So much for these sx activities that allow you to play with Google Arts and culture. You have access to it both on your laptop or tablet and on your desktop computer. I'll let you test them. And all the others. You'll tell me which ones you like best.
