In class: how to get all students back to work (even dropouts)
You must have experienced it: you start training in French and, immediately, two camps are emerging. On the one hand, those who get to work. On the other hand, those who hang out, look for a pretext, negotiate, or turn off at the first notice. And it is not a question of level: very often, it is simply that they no longer accept the ‘exercise’ form.

Spelling, grammar, conjugation: change the entry without lowering the requirement
Motoufo is interesting precisely for this: it does not ask you to give up work on spelling, grammar and conjugation (progression from CE1 to CM2), but it changes the way you enter it. Instead of a sheet to be completed, the student is faced with steps to be taken, validations to be obtained, and online games to make you want to go further. For many reluctant students, this is the difference between ‘I don’t do’ and ‘I try again’. Put another way, your students will love it. And maybe you too. After Matheros for Maths by the same author, an excellent game platform for French.
How it works: skill belts, differentiated pathways and games
The first pillar of Motoufo is the skill belts. Here, a notion is not “made” because it has been seen in class: it is acquired because it has been validated. Logic is very readable for students. They know what they are aiming for, they see where they stand, and they understand that it is necessary to stabilise before moving on. For you, it is a clear marker: you can quickly identify what is solid and what remains fragile, without relying solely on the impression of the moment.
The second pillar: the differentiated pathways. Not all students move at the same pace, and you know this better than anyone. Motoufo allows everyone to progress where they need it. Some consolidate a base, others advance to a next belt, others return to a dragging difficulty. You keep a common classroom setting, but avoid the ‘everyone does the same thing at the same time’ effect, which always ends up leaving students by the wayside.

Third pillar, the one that often wins accession: the games are really nice. And it counts. Because the objective is not just to "decorate" the training: it is to make repetition acceptable. When the student wants to succeed in a challenge, he or she is more willing to repeat, apply and persevere. And that’s exactly what spelling and grammar need: useful repetition, with quick feedback, until it lasts.
Motoufo also offers a very practical feature on a daily basis: you can create Word Lists (words of the week, invariable words, vocabulary of a theme, words spotted in productions), and the platform transforms them into work packages, with observation activities that help to fix spelling. That’s great.

Pedagogical uses: in the classroom, at home and in remediation
In class, the most effective format remains the short ritual. Ten minutes is enough. You announce a simple goal: move towards validation, or secure a belt. Those who like to succeed take to the game immediately. Students who usually resist enter more easily because the task has a clear and immediate purpose. And you recover something precious: a class at work, with a progression that can be seen.
In remediation, Motoufo can also save you time. After an evaluation, instead of stacking additional exercises, you can direct the student towards a specific notion and give him a direction: consolidate until validation. It is more concrete, often better accepted, and easier to follow.
But the other interest is that Motoufo does not stop at class. The platform can also be used at home, to install a short routine between two sessions, or to consolidate a difficulty identified in written production. This is particularly useful for families who want to ‘help’ without knowing exactly what to do: instead of improvising, the child follows a guided journey with steps and validations.
And for teachers or speakers in school support, it is a tool that can serve as a framework: belts to set a clear goal, routes to adapt the level, games to maintain the effort without spending the session to negotiate. The adult then retains his role: explaining, verbalising, correcting typical mistakes, and then letting the student train in a structured way.

I like, I don’t like
Motoufo’s main strength is the balance between Mastery Benchmarks (belts), adaptation to the real level (differentiated pathways) and entry through the game (challenges that make us want to insist). Often, this is exactly what it takes to hang up students who have started rejecting the ‘exercise’ form.
Limits, on the other hand, are mostly practical. It takes material, a connection, and a clear framing: we aim for validation, not just "do ten minutes". And as always, no tool replaces the work of a teacher: it is you who make the link with the writings of the class, who choose when to resume in a group, and who help the student to understand his mistakes, not only to avoid them.
Motufo is part of the excellent suite of software offered by Lorin Walter with Monecole.fr. The price of motoufo remains very reasonable: from 16 € per year for 20 students, with possibility of connection Gar.
Verdict: The simplest test in 10 minutes
The True One Motoufo Test, this is not what you think of the tool after five minutes: this is what your students do after ten. If even those who usually hang out are looking for validation, you may have a French routine that, for once, does not require extra energy.
