What are the cursive policies officially recommended by the Ministry of Education for each level?
The Ministry of National Education provides two free cursive policies, Police A and Police B, which can be used from kindergarten to CM2. These fonts offer straight, leaning versions, with or without built-in settings, as well as a set of ligated capitals. For specific levels, Graphcrit is recommended in kindergarten and CP, while ScriptÉcole and Belle Allure agree from CP to CM2, the latter respecting particularly the official instructions.
Are there cursive fonts specifically designed for dyslexic or dyspraxic students?
There are no cursive fonts specifically dedicated to dyslexic or dyspraxic students. However, some fonts like OpenDyslexic or Dyslexia Font have been designed with a character shape facilitating reading and visual discrimination of letters for dyslexics. For handwriting, simple cursive fonts should be preferred, with a well-defined layout and regularity facilitating the gesture. The key is to adopt a legible, fluid and learning-based font.
How to easily install and set up a new cursive font on a computer/tablet for use in teaching materials?
Most of the cursive fonts recommended for teaching, whether free or paid, are usually provided in OpenType (.otf or .ttf) format.
To install them on a Windows computer, simply double-click on the font file and then click "Install". On Mac, drag and drop the file into the "Library/Fonts" folder.
Once installed, the font will be available in the font list of your office suite (Microsoft Office, LibreOffice …) or word processing/presentation software. You will then be able to apply it normally to your document. On tablets, some applications such as Google Drive, Pages or handwritten note applications sometimes allow additional fonts to be imported.
