An online dictionary for all languages of the world
Glosbe embraces the translation of words and phrases in more than 6000 languages and dialects. Not all dictionaries on the site are as rich, but a large part of the common words can be found there.
The Glosbe interface is, however, conventionally effective. You write the word or phrase you want to translate. You then choose your original language, you finally select the language in which you want to get the translation and instantly the result is displayed.
The result for each word is very detailed. Glosbe provided a lot of information. In addition, you can first listen to the word in the destination language by clicking on the small speaker next to the word.
Then comes the definition, translations of sentences or expressions containing the word. There too you can listen to them. An illustrated dictionary with images corresponding to the word. Sentences or words similar to the search and finally dozens of sentences containing the word or expression sought.
In all, it is more than 2 billion translations in all languages which are present in this gigantic dictionary of online languages.
A Participatory Dictionary
This is one of the interesting features of Glosbe, everyone can participate in the enrichment of dictionaries. Readers are invited to contribute. You can propose translations, examples of use or pronunciations of words or expressions. The Glosbe community has 600,000 contributing participants.
The site is free. It is financed by very present advertising. In the Glosbe team’s project boxes, the possibility to create your own personal dictionary. In addition, you can practice and learn a few words in any language by marking and setting aside translations that interest you.
