Frederick's War. Memoirs of a hairy person on Twitter

Last updated on 12 May 2026

Me Frédéric B. This is a magnificent pedagogical project and a moving dive into history that offer us senior high school students of the Lycée Clémence Royer in Fonsorbes near Toulouse.

Me Frédéric B, bring back to life all those who are passionate about history, the First World War through the memories of a French soldier. Frédéric was 20 years old in 1914. Mobilized like thousands of young people of his age, he will live the brutality of the Great War. A war that he will tell in notebooks in which he notes every day his experience and that of his comrades. With each permission, he will take the time to copy them to the typewriter.

It is these typed notes that were entrusted to Toulouse high school students. The latter will revive these memories through a blog and a Twitter account. The use of CTBTs for a dizzying dive into history. A real success.

During a weekly workshop, young people work on notebooks to produce three types of content.

The first step is to feed Frédéric B’s Twitter account. Tweets that tell the day-to-day story of the war as he experienced it. This is arguably the most moving, humane narrative of this historic dive into the past.

Complementing the Twitter account, the blog created for the occasion presents every week all the French soldier’s notebooks.. A more classic presentation to pay tribute to this historical testimony that its author wished to leave to his family and probably also to future generations.

Third type of publications, explanatory notes They will come to rely on extracts from the notebooks to enrich them with presentations on this or that point in this historical period.

Follow Frédéric B. This soldier of the First War speaks in the first person on Twitter. You will not forget his words, his fears, his hopes, his friendships … his war. His humanity.

Let the high school students of Fonsorbes be thanked here to have given him that word.

[…] "I was born on January 8, 1930. I live with my parents Mathieu and Jeanne in Cherbourg. Soon we'll be 4 because I'm going to have a little brother or sister. Dad's a doctor and Mommy's a teacher. I dream of becoming a diplomat.” Social networks like Twitter and Facebook lend themselves particularly well to this kind of dive into history. We remember the extraordinary newspaper of a hairy person on Twitter. […]
