Framasite. How to create a wiki, page or website

Last updated on 21 May 2018

Framasite is a tool that wants to facilitate your digital projects by allowing you to easily and free of charge create a Wiki, a page or a website. Framasite is another service offered by the irreducible defenders of the free grouped in the Framasoft collective.

I have already said here all the good I thought of the immense efforts of the people of Framasoft to offer free and free alternatives to the big companies of the Web. Framasite is a good example of this public utility work.

If you are looking for a service that allows you to create a wiki for your courses or a small ephemeral site for your class, Framasite is probably a good option. You can also advise your students from high school without fear, as long as they are a little nimble with digital technology.

Framasite

First of all, Framasite allows you to simply create online wikis. It uses DokuWiki free software for this purpose. The best-known model is of course Wikipedia, which is no longer presented. A wiki can be useful in projects of all kinds, from the creation of a knowledge base to the structured presentation of group research work.

Framasite also offers you to simply create a single web page or a complete site. For this, Framsoft relies on Grav Free Software. Framasoft’s teams worked well by prioritising their efforts on usability to make the creation of a simple web page or site accessible to everyone. The result is still in the testing phase, but it is already quite good at all.

After a quick registration, the choice of a title and a small description of your project, all you have to do is choose a theme or template. Everything can then be edited at the end of the mouse in a few clicks. The sections of your web page can be moved, the texts changed and the images changed. You will especially be able to use a system of modules to enrich your page by simply drag and drop.

Framasite modules

Framasite is still under development and you may still encounter a bug at the turn of a page. It is a waste of knowledge and the initiators of the project tell you twice rather than once on the homepage.

Extremely simple Framasite is not necessarily suitable for large editorial projects, However, it should address many online publishing needs in the education and training world.

Framasite is free, free and in French.
