DeepL. Finally a quality automatic translator

Last updated on 19 October 2023

DeepL is a brand new tool that risks upsetting all existing machine translation systems. This platform outperforms most current online offerings by injecting a good dose of artificial intelligence into traditional automated translation algorithms.

DeepL

Forget Google translate, Microsoft's or Facebook's proposals, DeepL beats them all flat with much finer and more accurate results than those offered by those you are used to using.

You only have to try it to realise it, DeepL offers in its results a much more natural language without breaks and against meaning. At least most of the time. This is probably one of the Best Translation Tools current automatic.

DeepL Translator proposes for its launch 42 combinations from seven languages : French, English, German, Spanish, Italian, Polish and Dutch. Others should follow, such as Mandarin, Japanese or Russian.

The service posted online is for the moment of great sobriety but also of great efficiency. On the left a window in which to paste your text. No need to specify the language, DeepL will recognize it automatically.  On the right is another window where the translation will appear after you have chosen the destination language.

Very handy when you click on one of the words of the text you want to translate, DeepL shows you at the bottom of the page a complete definition and examples of use. This will allow you to fine-tune the translation if necessary. Moreover, when you click on a word of the translated text this time, the tool offers several possible translations in a drop-down menu. That's great.

DeepL Translator works at lightning speed. This is one of the secrets of the designers of DeepL Translator, they have a supercomputer located in Iceland. Its computing power is 5.1 petaFLOPS (5 100 000 000 000 000 of operations per second). A monster powerful enough to translate a million words in less than a second.

The DeepL team uses this supercomputer to train neural translation networks from a vast collection of multilingual texts. During training, networks analyse a multitude of translations and learn how to translate independently, respecting the grammar and structure of the text. The result is bluffing and hints at what computers will do tomorrow.

DeepL is offered free of charge on the web. You can use their perfectly responsive site on smartphone and tablet.
