Orthophore. Working spelling with autonomous dictations

Last updated on 12 May 2026

Orthophorus is a great online device that will allow you to offer your students dictations that they can make on their own, each at their own pace and according to their level. Small bonus not insignificant, the dictations are corrected automatically.

This is an excellent service from the Lille Academy which is worth knowing.. It will prevent you from continuing to dodge the texts of your dictations for the class by offering students to work independently and you to devote yourself to differentiated work for a group.

Orthophore hides its game behind a fairly simple interface, but don't rely on appearances. The platform offers a complete and particularly interesting solution.

dictee

Basically, it is a online dictation system to holes. You can test it on the homepage of the site. We listen a first time to the complete dictation, then we will be able to listen again sentence by sentence by completing in writing the missing words or expressions. Once the dictation is complete, you click on "correct" and you can immediately control your errors. By clicking on a word, you access an explanation of your error and can review what you wrote under the correct answer.

The device takes all its interest when you register as a teacher. You will indeed be able to enroll your students and offer them dictations to carry out. This will allow you to monitor their progress, results and possibly adjust the level of dictations for some of them. By default, dictations, which have been designed to consolidate learning, in spelling and grammar, are set to an N-1 level.

Once your students are registered by you, they will be able to log in via a username and a personal password (a password a little complicated in my opinion, but bon…) They will thus access their space in which they will be able to find the dictates that you will offer them at the time you propose them.

Both the pupil and the teacher then have access to assessments that make it possible to identify where the difficulties lie for everyone and also see progress over time.

Orthophorus

All this works terribly well. The service is free, but reserved for teachers who will request access for their class with their academic email address. The site is very easy to handle. In any case, the design team has done the right thing and provides you with two particularly clear instruction booklets (one for the , teacher and one for the pupils).

Orthophore, those who do not have it have wrongly said the site hangs on its homepage. I agree enough. Congratulations to the team that developed all this, it's a great job.

Too bad it is not accessible to … parents or school assistants (but here I preach for my parish: a lot of great tools are reserved for teachers, not easy when you work in schools without an academic address!)

    @Aude de Gouville
Are you sure that an asso cannot take advantage of the Orthophore device? And that the academic address is mandatory?
My little finger tells me that a small request through the contact form of the site could reserve surprises …
I say that, I say nothing!!

On my previous comment, my ‘motus et bouche sesue’ smiley has been misinterpreted and the substitution emoticon does not reflect my rather teasing state of mind at all.

    Hello,

Your site is awesome. Is there a version for college level? That would be top ….
    Good continuation.

    Sincerely.
